Eagle River Wisconsin snowmobiling and lodging vacations in Eagle River Wisconsin at Bayside Motor Lodge

***Eagle River, Wis. (VILAS COUNTY) -- as of November 28, 2011***
Good action for walleye, northern and panfish, with skim ice just starting to form on some of the smaller lakes in the Eagle River, Wisconsin area.

Water temps in the Eagle River area are in the low 30s, with skim ice just starting to form on some of the smaller lakes.  Now's the time to get your ice fishing gear in shape for first ice, which in Eagle River means some legendary action.  We'll keep you closely posted on conditions, and advise you when you can get up here for the early ice fishing bonanza.

In the meantime, there's still plenty of open water fishing action in the Eagle River area.

The walleye bite is good in the Eagle River area. The walleyes are locating in 15-30 feet of water at the bases of break edges and over mud flats.  Just a jig and a minnow.  The walleye will be within a foot off the bottom. Good all day bite.

Northern in the Eagle River area are in 15 feet of water or less in and around weeds.  Use a Husky Jerk in a minnow or walleye pattern, or a northern sucker minnow under a slip bobber. Good all day bite.

Panfish (crappies, bluegills and perch) in the Eagle River area are in the same general areas as the walleye.  Fish 15-30 feet of water at the base of break edges and over mud flats.  Perch will be tight to the bottom, with the crappies and gills suspending 2-10 feet off the bottom.  Use a crappie minnow under a slip bobber or hooked up to a small jig. Good all day bite. And don't forget that crappies only bite "up," never "down."  Start fishing right at the bottom and work your way up the water column for best results.
